WELCOME TO THE ALMANAC. A history in pictures, words and sounds of the aardvark farms in (what I like to think of) it's heyday. around 1984 to 1994, give or take a year or two.
During this time I had my hands in various media. To name a few:

  1. Mail Art (or mailart) before the days of email got big, and friends actually wrote letters to each other. Decorating the envelopes and including various interesting ephemera in the envelope was how I got started, then noticed that people actually would have call for entries of mailart in a very diverse choice of both media and subject matter. Then they would either actually show in a gallery or create a pamphlet or booklet and send that back to each mail artist who participated. I did all my own mail art under the Aardvark Farms logo.
  2. Mix Tapes both original and favorite music. The original stuff was when a few friends jammed (usually with little or no musical inclination), I recorded it, sometimes added to it and edited it. Defears , Noisea , Mr. Suburbia are some of the Tapes I put together under the FearHead or Aardvark Farms name.
  3. Comix or Underground Comics there used to be a lot of people throughout the country who made little xerox copied 'zines about just about everything. From Politics to favorite rock bands to personal stories to stupid comics. I gravitated towards the last, usually as gross, perverted and obscene as possible. And with a lot of friends contributing great stuff. Some of the titles were: Dinky Stories , Zombie Vomit , Wonton Carruba , Tallix Funnies, and more.

SO WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO HERE WITH THIS "SITE" IS START WITH THE MAILART AND COMIX AND SCAN MY "vast archives" OF THE STUFF (yes, I saved most of the crap, actually doesn't take up much space). AND I'LL POST THE PICS UP HERE FOR YOU TO LOOK AT, COMMENT ON, ADD TO, ETC.
I WILL NOT BE PICKY AND WILL NOT ASK ANYONE FOR PERMISSION TO INCLUDE THEIR STUFF. IF YOU SEE YOUR STUFF POSTED AND DON'T WANT IT HERE, EITHER REMOVE IT IF YOU'RE A MEMBER OR CONTACT ME.
I'M STARTING WITH THE MAIL ART AND COMICS BECAUSE I AM NOT WELL VERSED AT POSTING MUSIC (or rather sounds) TO THE INTERNET. ANY HELP WITH THAT IS VERY WELCOME.

hello there, ralf? i really would like to learn more about mr suburbia! i was asleep late one night, when a friend of mine called me up, and asked if i had left a cd in his cd rack without telling him. seeing as it was 3 in the morning i figured it would have to be a pretty important cd for him to need to find out so soon. over the phone, he played it for me and i immediately realized the reason for his urgency. to me, at that moment half-awake, i felt like i was stumbling into a movie where two guys have found a mysterious key to another world. the next day, my friend showed me the cd, it was just a burned disc with two words written on, 'mr suburbia' he had no memory of who gave it to him or how he got it but ever since then i've been trying and desperately searching to find out more about the strange and ominous sounds i heard. and now, it seems my search has finally come to an end? please write back and tell me how i can get more of the music and get some more info? i have another friend who says he heard the cd once before and thinks its called 'larry in la-la-land'. thanks!

Remember me? You used to draw awesome covers for my zines - Noisy Concept, Sleepy Foot back in the day. I was going through a box of old cassette tapes today, and I came across some Mr. Suburbias. My favorite one is Life is a Slow Sax Solo but at some point that one got eaten, but I kept it anyway thinking maybe I can fix it or something. So it's sitting there in its case with the tape all pulled out and wrapped around it. What a mess. But that's what spurred me to put Mr. Suburbia in my Google search box and so here I am. So to make a short story long, I need you to put that stuff on a CD and tell me how I can buy one. I used to torture my friends reciting "I Know For A Fact There Are Demons". I had the whole damn thing memorized.

Check it out. Pulled some stuff from the Ralf box, my personal archive of Ralf art. There's a lot left to scan and I'll add more when I can. Enjoy!
